A “BIMBI NERI, NOTTI BIANCHE”, in onda stasera su Rai 3 alle 23.20 il riconoscimento di EIUC-HUMAN RIGHTS premio collaterale del 62° Festival di Venezia

Il film "Bimbi neri, notti bianche" di e con Giobbe Covatta, per la regia di Giulio Manfredonia, in onda stasera su Rai Tre alle 23,20 si è aggiudicato il premio EIUC - Human Rights della 62a Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica di Venezia. Il film è stato prodotto da Mestiere Cinema in collaborazione con Rai Tre per AMREF. EIUC è un centro interdisciplinare formato da 37 università europee con base a Venezia che contribuisce alla professionalizzazione di chi opera nel campo dei diritti umani promuovendo una comunità di leaders competenti, creativi e capaci di sostenere la difesa dei diritti umani nel mondo. EIUC Human Rights Film Award 2005 to BIMBI NERI NOTTI BIANCHE (Giulio Manfredonia and Giobbe Covatta).
BIMBI NERI NOTTI BIANCHE is a dramatic story told by Giobbe Covatta, a travelling DJ who follows the paths of Maria, Jean-Paul and Pasquale, who are symbols of all Ugandan children affected by the conflict. The film’s original approach combines background information, testimonies, ironic comments, music, and takes into account different languages and sensitivities. While displaying Northern Uganda’s dramatic reality, the film emphasizes the children’s ability to keep a smile, even under the harshest living conditions. Through an insightful and intelligent humour, the film leaves the viewer with a feeling of empathy and hope rather than sympathy and resignation.
BIMBI NERI NOTTI BIANCHE was included in the initiative Spazio Aperto, which was organised by Giornate degli Autori. Although this documentary deals with a wide range of human rights violations – such as the right to life and education – it did not get much financial support. For the moment it remains a national television product, and is soon to be shown on Italian television. In selecting this film, the EIUC Jury, among other reasons, hopes it can cross the national border and reach a broader audience.
For the second year the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) is conferring a Human Rights Film Award within the framework of the Venice Film Festival. The Human Rights Film Award is meant to highlight the importance of cinema as means to raise awareness about human rights issues all over the world. This year’s EIUC Jury – composed by graduating E.MA students Sofia Branco/Portugal, Giorgio Caracciolo di Brienza/Italy, Sandra Miller/Germany, Sarah Mohsen/Germany, Paola Stablum/Italy – selected the film BIMBI NERI NOTTI BIANCHE, by Giulio Manfredonia and Giobbe Covatta.
